Young Carer Crisis - What can we do?

At Blue Badgers we want to bring together unpaid carers to get them a better deal. There were  38,000 young carers in England in 2023 according to the Department for Education’s school census.

This hidden and diverse army of unpaid carers make a huge contribution to our Social Care and National Health services.

What can we do? There are no easy answers but greater visibility in schools is a great place to start. Blue Badgers young care members have access to a digital or printed card, helping schools and businesses to identify them and find ways to help - whether that’s extra support, a free coffee or just checking in.

Did you know badgers cannot retract their claws - you can see where they've been from their footprints. Lets create Blue Badgers footprints and help schools to find the young carers in their classrooms.
